Who We Are

We are a group of opera singers providing live music and workshops to the incarcerated populations of NYC. Art has the power to heal and connect. In a complicated and volatile world, reaching out is more important than ever. This work is rooted in striving for equity. We may all be equal, but there are systemic barriers that hinder that equality. Our teaching artists strive to bring compassion and radical acceptance to these spaces regardless of the history of the detainees we work with. Every teaching artist is background-checked before entering a jail facility.

Our Origins

Alexa Rosenberg, Founder and Executive Director

Alexa Rosenberg is a trained opera singer and actor. She began her teaching artist journey through Stella Adler Acting Studio's outreach program in 2016. With Stella Adler Acting Studio, she participated in acting improv workshops and playwriting classes on Rikers Island and the Manhattan Detention Center. Eventually, she went solo to do educational opera classes with incarcerated adult men, where students would write poetry, and discuss politics, pop culture and religion in the context of the arias and solos she would bring in. Founding this company came from the realization that there could be a greater impact by bringing in more artists to share their craft and their compassion.
